Q: I’m already advertising in another newspaper, why should I advertise in The Belleville News-Democrat?
A: 63% of the Metro East job seekers are News-Democrat Readers.* 96% of 80,891 residents polled sited they use the News-Democrat and bnd.com for their employment search* and The Belleville News-Democrat reaches 136,792 to the St. Louis Post Dispatch’s 68,861 adult readers on Sunday in the Metro East.*
Q: Advertising our open positions cost too much money:
A: When you consider The Belleville News-Democrat’s and Careebuilder.com reach and demographics, it is actually one of the most cost-effective methods of advertising available. Your recruiting message will reach over 250,000 active and passive job seekers who are looking for a variety of employment opportunities each and everyday which will invite a significant number of potential candidates to send resumes or complete applications.
Q: I’m already advertising on-line and why do I need to use print?
A: Seventy percent of all job seekers reported using newspapers and online ads to look for employment, according to a 2007 report by The Conference Board. 70.6% of job seekers still use the newspaper for their employment searches whereas only 50% used other job-search methods such as networking with friends and colleagues and other activities. As a multi-distribution medium, newspapers are uniquely positioned in offering you a complete multi-media solution platform filled with a variety of options.
Q: Do you think job seekers will drive “all the way” to St. Louis to work?
A: Commuting to neighboring counties for work is common, and a substantial number of commuters cross into Missouri for employment purposes. Easy commuting access is available via interstates 64, 55, 70, 255, 270 and the extended Metro-Link through St. Clair County to St. Louis. According to Census figures, over 77,350 workers commute to Missouri daily including 32,950 from Madison County and 32,100 from St. Clair County. Even Monroe County with a total number of workers of 14,400, has over 6,000 commuters to Missouri. This significant commuting pattern back and forth across the Mississippi River reinforces the strong ties within the metropolitan region. Understandably, most of the commuting for work or entertainment and services within the Southwestern Economic Development Region is to the two largest counties, Madison and St. Clair. The seven smaller counties have historically been and continue to develop into bedroom communities for St. Louis, Madison and St. Clair.*
